Where to Stay in Ilulissat
When deciding which Ilulissat accommodation to book location is one of the most important factors to consider.
The last thing you want is to get there are realize you are a 30 minute walk from everything!
Find a room with sea views!
It is worth it to try and book a room with sea views if possible. We took this into consideration when booking and ultimately decided to book the 3-star Hotel Icefjord and have no regrets whatsoever. The views were incredible!
In the summer you can see the midnight sun from your hotel room, in the winter, you can see the spectacular northern lights without even having to leave your hotel room.
In the winter in Ilulissat the northern lights are so common that it can be almost guaranteed that you will see them if you stay for at least a few days.
Ilulissat is one of the best places in Greenland to see the northern lights.
Researching where your hotel is located should be top priority when planning a trip to Ilulissat.
You will also want to check and see if your hotel offers free transfers. i.e. airport shutte, or free shuttle rides into town. The airport is 3 miles away from the town center so you definitely need to have transportation arranged once you land.
There are taxi’s in Ilulissat but they are expensive and may be hard to come by in the high season. Also, keep in mind that you might not have phone service so calling them could be difficult.
Pros – Amazing views of Disko Bay from your hotel room. Close to the Ilulissat Icefjord and hikes.
Cons – A little further away from town than some of the other hotels on this list. But still walkable.
Other amenities include an on-site currency exchange.
Hotel Icefiord Location
Best Western Plus Hotel Ilulissat
Best Western Plus Hotel in Ilulissat provides accommodations with a restaurant, free private parking, a fitness center and a bar.
Pros – Central location with easy access to hikes. Free Wi-Fi available.
Cons – Not really sure. Can’t find anything wrong with it. Ha.
The Best Western Plus Hotel is a 4 minute walk from the city center.
Hotel Hvide Falk
Hotel Hvide Falk is within a 5-10 minute walk to the city center. The location is ideal and the main draw to stay here.
You can find rooms at Hvide Falk with sea views of Disko Bay.
This hotel has a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is also a bar on the premises.
Other amenities include free wifi and free shuttle service that can take you to and from the airport.
This hotel is a 5-10 minute walk to the city center.
Hotel Arctic Ilulissat
Hotel Arctic is the one of the nicest hotel in Ilulissat, but it is also further away from the city center than the others. It will take you about 20 minutes to get into town from the hotel. And Ilulissat can be quite hilly.
Pros – Modern, amazing views of Disko Bay, artwork by local artists in the hotel rooms.
Cons – Further away from the city center.
Other amenities include a tea and coffee maker in each room.
This hotel offers a very scenic location just outside of town.
Ilulissat Apartment is perfect for anyone looking for a more Air-bnb style accommodation. You will have the entire apartment to yourself with a fully equipped kitchen.
Pros – Central location, Close to the supermarkets, cafes, restaurants. Comes with a fully equipped kitchen.
Other amenities include free Wi-Fi and parking.
This hotel is a 10 minute walk from the city center.
HOTEL SØMA Ilulissat
Hotel restaurant only serves breakfast. However, Hotel Arctic is only a short walk away so you could head over there for lunch and dinner if needed.
Pros – Free airport transfers, free good Wi-Fi, good pricing and very modern
Cons – Located a 20 minute walk from downtown and offers no shuttle to get into town. No restaurant. Breakfast is an extra charge. Reception hours are limited.
This hotel is a 15-20 min walk from the city center.
